Born in Himeji, Recreated in Kuala Lumpur
Kinnotsubo began as a small izakaya in the historic city of Himeji, Japan. Founded by Tsubosaka, our restaurant grew from a humble neighborhood counter into a space known for heartfelt food and quiet hospitality. When the opportunity came to bring that same warmth to Malaysia, we knew Bukit Bintang — with its vibrant nights and curious energy — was the right place.
The Spirit of Izakaya
居酒屋の心
In Japan, an izakaya is more than a place to eat — it’s where people unwind, talk, and share. At Kinnotsubo, we believe good food should bring people together. We serve dishes that capture that spirit — grilled yakitori, warming oden, handmade ramen, comforting kamameshi, and seasonal specials — all designed for sharing around the counter.
Led by Experience and Heart
情熱と経験で導かれる
Kinnotsubo Kuala Lumpur is guided by Ms. Jennifer Ooi, our manager and head chef, who brings over 30 years of culinary experience from both Japanese and local kitchens. Her approach blends Japanese discipline with Malaysian warmth — a balance that makes our restaurant feel both familiar and new.
金の壺 — The Golden Pot
Our name, Kinnotsubo, means “The Golden Pot.” It symbolizes the value found in simple things — food made by hand, shared among people, with honesty and warmth. Every meal at Kinnotsubo is a reminder that the most precious moments often come from the simplest ingredients.
“Kinnotsubo is not only about food — it’s about the spirit of Himeji. The way people gather, the way the room feels, the way the night flows. We bring that spirit to Kuala Lumpur, one plate and one conversation at a time.”
